The tram is one of the most convenient ways to travel within the cities and towns of the Netherlands.

The strippenkaart is the form of payment on the trams, buses and the metros and are valid throughout the Netherlands. These cards can be bought from postoffices, railway stations, supermarkets, newsagents and tobacconists and can also be bought from the bus/tram driver, but are more expensive. Transport routes are divided into zones, one zone is two strips and the third strip indicates two zones. These cards should be fed into stamp machines near the doors on the tram/metro and the driver stamps the ticket on the bus. Once stamped the ticket is valid for one hour and you can change vehicles without getting it restamped. City centres are one zone and the surrounding zones are shown on maps at bus, tram and metro stops. An alternative is an unlimited travel ticket (called a dagkaart), valid for one, two or more days. Information on times, routes and fares is available on 0900-9292 or at www.ov9292.nl

    How long are tickets valid
The strippenkaart and the season ticket are National tickets. They are valid throughout the Netherlands. The season tickets are valid for the zones you have chosen. Therefore Your travels are irrespective of the transport company that you use (except for Nederlandse Spoorwegen*).

A strippenkaart , stamped for one, two or three zones, is valid for one hour. For a trip over four, five or six zones a maximum journey time of 1,5 hours applies. You may change as many times as you wish to other trams and buses, provided that you have a valid ticket. If you journey takes longer or covers more zones you may need to stamp additional strips.
