Throughout 2007, visitors to Amsterdam can experience a great amount of music and dance festivities during the tourist theme year Amsterdam Feel the Rhythm. For lovers of classical music and dance, as well as jazz, pop and exciting dance events. The whole month of July is devoted to Jazz in Rotterdam including the North Sea Jazz Festival. Holland Festival
    29 May - 23 June
In June 1947, Amsterdam made history with the very first international music, dance and theatre festival. The international top-class of the art world has been ever present at the Holland Festival, and there is no shortage of inspiration this year.
Two dance highlights from the 2007 edition are: All Fours / Violet Cavern by the Mark Morris Dance Group from New York and the world premiere of the Nederlands Dans Theater I from The Hague that presents a new choreography by Paul Lightfoot & Sol Léon on location in the Westergasfabriek.
Location: Muziektheater, Stadsschouwburg, Theater Bellevue, Westergasfabriek

Dance on the Leidseplein and Feel the Rhythm
    15 June - 15 July
In celebration of the 2007 theme year Amsterdam, Feel the Rhythm – music & dance, theatres on the Leidseplein present a dance event and platform. The specially constructed stage will host a slew of dance events including performances, workshops, the ‘Bal Moderne’, ballroom with a string quartet, dance parties and much more. Sections of the program include events put on by Julidans, 5 Days Off and various dance academies.

Starting on 15 June, there will be a dance event every Wednesday to Sunday on the Leidseplein. The Bal Moderne takes place on 15 June, and on 29 June and 13 July there will be a performance by the Rosas dance troupe from Brussels. The concept is simple: three short choreographed pieces of three minutes each specifically designed for people with little or no dance experience. The public then learns this within 45 minutes.

Every Saturday will be a spin-off of the Spin-Off event (normally in autumn) featuring hip-hop, breakdance and electric boogie, with open lessons and demonstrations by dance academies. Julidans will put on a Bollywood workshop on 4 July at 17:00, and a Faso Dance Theatre workshop on 11 July at 17:00.
Participating theatres include: Theater Bellevue, De Balie, Melkweg, Paradiso and Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.

Why would you want to go to Schagen. Well, indeed, you’d better ask yourself this question twice. It is certainly a cute little town with not much to offer the casual visitor, except a wonderful traditional market every Thursday in the summer. This is the time when getting into the train from Amsterdam for 50 minutes is worthwhile. Make sure to take the 9:22am train from Amsterdam central station in the direction of Den Helder. Then get off at Schagen where the traditional coaches wait for the train from Amsterdam to arrive before they go around the town. It is certainly not a bad thing to do if you have plans to visit Texel (island just north of Den Helder) on Thursday afternoon and Friday.
